A Successful Surgery For A Patient With Nasal Cavity Tumor
Duc T. Nguyen
Imagine having difficulty breathing, nasal congestion, sneezing and headache for two years. That was the case of patient Nguyen Van S (55 years old, Bac Lieu) who was just admitted and treated at Nam Can Tho University Medical Center. He had a tumor in his left nasal cavity that covered both right and left arches, causing him severe discomfort and distress.

He also took medication, but the symptoms did not subside. Afraid that the disease would worsen, he came for examination at the Department of Ophthalmology - Otorhinolaryngology, Nam Can Tho University Medical Center.
Here, he received a thorough examination and clinical tests that confirmed his diagnosis of chronic sinusitis and nasal cavity tumor. He was indicated for endoscopic surgery to remove the entire nasal cavity tumor. This is a difficult case, as a large tumor and compressing the nasal cavity can cause serious complications and damage to the surrounding structures.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Le Quoc Chanh - Head of Department of Ophthalmology - Otorhinolaryngology and Dr. Thai Thi Thuy Dung - Doctor in the Department of Ophthalmology - Otorhinolaryngology, Nam Can Tho University Medical Center. They used advanced endoscopic techniques and equipment to remove the tumor with minimal invasion and bleeding.

The Importance Of Early Diagnosis And Treatment For Nasal Diseases
Nasal diseases are common and can affect anyone at any age. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 10-15% of the global population suffers from chronic rhinosinusitis, which is inflammation of the nasal passages and sinuses. Other common nasal diseases include allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, deviated nasal septum, nasal fracture and nasal cancer.
Nasal diseases can cause various symptoms that affect the quality of life, for example: difficulty breathing, nasal congestion, runny nose, headache, facial pain, loss of smell and taste, snoring and sleep apnea. Some nasal diseases can be serious and lead to complications such as infection, bleeding, orbital cellulitis, meningitis or even death.
Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent the disease from progressing and causing more damage to the nasal cavity and other organs. It can also improve the symptoms and enhance the well-being of the patients. Treatment options depend on the type and severity of the disease, but may include medication, surgery or lifestyle changes.
If you have any signs of nasal diseases, you should go for examination at medical facilities with Otorhinolaryngology department as soon as possible. Do not ignore or self-medicate your symptoms as they may worsen over time or indicate a more serious condition.
